Associations between current promotion of health behaviours and carer perceptions were explored through multivariate regression analysis in 2016. A majority of respondents promoted fruit and vegetable consumption (63.8%), physical activity (60.3%), quitting smoking (56.3%), and reducing alcohol consumption (56.2%) to the person they cared for. A perception that it was ‘very important’ to have a positive influence on these behaviours was positively related with promotion of each of the four behaviours, with those holding such a view being more likely to promote such behaviours, than those who did not (odds ratio: 9.47–24.13, p < 0.001). The majority (56.2%–63.8%) of carers reported promoting the health behaviours of those they cared for, demonstrating a need and opportunity to build the capacity of carers to contribute to reducing the health risk behaviours among people with a mental illness.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 16:25:44 AEST ]]> Study protocol: a randomised controlled trial investigating the effect of a healthy lifestyle intervention for people with severe mental disorders https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:15839 Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:46:16 AEST ]]> Impact of a postdischarge smoking cessation intervention for smokers admitted to an inpatient psychiatric facility: A randomized controlled trial https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18572 Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:18:20 AEST ]]> How mental health occupational therapists address issues of diet with their clients: a qualitative study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:22296 Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:09:16 AEST ]]> Uptake of smoking cessation aids by smokers with a mental illness https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24212 Wed 06 Apr 2022 14:01:04 AEST ]]> The impact of an undergraduate students' culture on their learning about mental health: A scoping review https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:49069 Wed 03 May 2023 16:08:16 AEST ]]> N-acetylcysteine (NAC) for methamphetamine dependence: A randomised controlled trial https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48692 Tue 28 Mar 2023 20:45:40 AEDT ]]> Prevention of mental and substance use disorders: Shaping priorities for research and implementation https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:49885 Tue 13 Jun 2023 13:08:41 AEST ]]> Outpatient interventions for smoking cessation and reduction for adults with a mental disorder (protocol) https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36394 Tue 07 Apr 2020 15:53:48 AEST ]]> Study of 300,486 individuals identifies 148 independent genetic loci influencing general cognitive function https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41379 Tue 04 Apr 2023 19:08:51 AEST ]]> Attitudes and perceptions regarding tobacco, alcohol or cannabis use among people with and without mental disorders https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:12035 Thu 11 Jul 2019 12:28:17 AEST ]]> Testing psychometric properties of a new instrument 'promoting active ageing in older people with mental disorders scale' from a cross-sectional study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44089 2(1431) = 26221.167, P < 0.001.
